Over 1,000 Katsina Flood Victims Get Relief Materials From NEMA

 At least 1,000 victims have benefited from reliefs distributed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the flood that stranded 13 LGAs in Katsina State on Thursday.

The goods were delivered to the provincial government by Saadia Umar Farooq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Mustafa Kabir Ahmed, Secretary General of NEMA in Katsina Provincial Government Area. The minister did not specify the cost of the materials, but Mustafa Ahmed told reporters that relief materials were placed on seven trailers, which included food and non-food items.




He, however, urged the beneficiaries to stop constructing waterways and clean drains and waterways regularly to prevent future recurrence. DG NEMA reminded that after the onset of this year's seasonal rains, residents should be vigilant as the agency issued a warning for potentially flood prone areas of the federation.

"And we have recommended that every state should set up a local disaster management council to handle disaster management from scratch," he added. The 17 different auxiliary tools delivered for implementation include: 3,000 10-kilogram bags of rice, 3,000 10-kilogram bags of corn, 3,000 10-kilogram bags of soybeans, 100 20-liter barrels of vegetable oil, 200 boxes of spice cubes, 300 bags of salt, 200 kilos of 200 kilo bags. cement, 100 bags of 25 kg nails.


Other items include 300 roofing felts, 100 zinc nails, 500 mattresses, 1,000 blankets, 5,000 nylon sheets, 2,000 mosquito nets, 4,000 5-meter brocades, 500 wax guinea flakes and 1,000 children's clothes. In this regard, Saadia Farooq paid each cash allowance of N20,000 to help 7,000 underprivileged people in the state start a business or raise capital.

It is part of the anti-poverty government policy led by President Muhammadu Buhari to improve the lives of over 10 million poor and vulnerable across the country. The event, which held at the Katsina banquet, Government House, was mostly women, disabled and PWD from the 34 LGAs in the state.

While reviewing the various programs of the National Social Investment Programme, he explained that it was introduced by President Buhari in 2016 to address poverty, unemployment and other social ills. “There are four main programs below. There is N-Power, Conditional Cash Benefits, GIP Schemes and Home School Meal Schemes. “Notably, we have 50,000 N-Power beneficiaries, 50,000 GIP beneficiaries, over 1 million foster students and over 100,000 conditional cash transfer households in the state.

"All these programs aim at eradicating poverty and improving the lives of more than 10 million people from poverty and vulnerable groups," he said. Special guest and Katsina Governor, Aminu Masari believes that no government has been more pro-people than President Buhari since the return of democracy in 1999.

On his behalf, the Governor appointed the N State President. Tasiu Zango said the President Buhari-led government has got over 20 million households across all sectors benefiting from commendable programmes.

He also urged the beneficiaries to vote APC for continuity in 2023 general elections and reap more dividends in democracy.
